Pushing the limits of music and marching, Spirit of America is presenting the world premiere of a new musical form: the Wind Opera. With musicians as the cast, Quest for Honor is being presented for the first time as a gift to the Korean people in concert halls and theaters in South Korea, and at the U.S. Military Base in Seoul in August, 2006.
This unique three-act instrumental opera is enacted on stage by an ensemble of 70 musicians who portray characters in a mythical story. Blending instruments, choreography, dance, costumes, and artistically painted sets, the wind opera is a sweepingly colorful musical presentation.
The story portrays two children who travel on a journey to save their village which has been under a curse of drought. Throughout their journey, the children struggle with betrayal, falsehood, hate, and selfishness, and discover loyalty, truth, love, and sacrifice all attributes of honor which give them the key to end the suffering of the land.
The original libretto, musical compositions, artistically painted sets and floor, hand-sewn costumes, and choreography were all created for the two-hour opera by teams from within Spirit of America band and its support staff. Quest for Honor is Co-Directed by Richard K. Pugsley and Danielle Dwyer.
